We are now approaching the end of the month of June and so the in-house club competitions are well under way. Many of our competitions are named after previous members who have given long service to the club, so it is a nice way to remember them.
The first rounds of the Stan Smith 4-bowl singles and the 2-bowl Kathy Birch singles have all been played and these competitions have progressed to the quarter final stage.
Recently, we held the Jack Shaw 3-bowl triples which was won by Dave Goodliffe, Chris Leigh and John Rennison. This was a round robin format and was so closely fought that the result only became known with the final bowl of the afternoon - a real 'cliffhanger'!
The second one-day competition, the Stephen Rowe 2-bowl pairs, was held in early June. The weather was extremely changeable and challenging, which turns our competition secretary into a weather forecaster for the day! We had sunshine, heavy rain and thunder within a few short hours. After a short break during the heaviest rain while members made use of the club's bar facilities, the winners, Rob Hill and Dave Perkins, emerged from a very tense final where they played the club Chairman (Eddie Fairs) and new member Ray Sage (shown L-R in the photo)
