We are now well into the bowling season and, despite the very mixed weather, we have managed to play most of our league matches. On one particular evening we wore more clothes than we would normally wear in the winter!! However, rain does not stop play for bowlers, unless conditions become slippery and there are risks of falls.

At the end of May we had our first club competition-the Stephen Rowe cup for 2 wood pairs. After a very close final between Chris Leigh and Ian Tumilty against Alison Tumilty and John Rennison, the winners were Chris and Ian.

The second club competition, the Jack Shaw trophy, was held on June 8th and this time it involved triples. This was a round robin competition and the outright winners, Tricia Dines, Andy Bateman and Cliff Adams, won all three of their games.

Meanwhile the knock out rounds of the Stan Smith and Kathy Birch are ongoing throughout the season.

The fun league continues to be played every Friday afternoon and the points table, after 5 games, is slowly hotting up with Ken Scott currently top, followed by Pete Batson and then a tie between Norm Houston and John Payne. This league continues throughout the season and then the winner is the highest score over an aggregate of 10 games.

One of the newer members of the club recently described bowling as a very gentle sport. However, it is also a sport that can be enjoyed by any age group and it certainly helps improve fitness as well as providing social interaction and a bit of friendly competition!! So if you would like to “have a go”, please get in touch.
